2001 IJSBA Competition Rules Revisions Summary

The following rules revisions have been approved by the Board of Directors for the 2001 IJSBA Competition Rulebook. This information is to serve as a general summary of the changes for 2001. The text used in the 2001 Official Competition Rulebook will be binding.

The text below represents a new rule in the Limited class. The rule has been added to allow girdle kit heads.

7.1.3     Old Rule

“Engines may be bored. Replacement piston assemblies may be used provided the original port timing, compression ratio, dome profile, skirt length and shape and type of material are not changed. Replacement piston assemblies must weigh within ±25.00% of original equipment. Oversize pistons must not exceed 1.00mm (0.039in) larger than the original piston size. Engine displacement must not exceed class designation (e.g. 550cc in 550 Stock, 785cc in 785 Stock, etc.). Chamfering of cylinder ports must not exceed 1.00mm (0.040in) at a 30 degree maximum angle. (See diagram in Appendix.) No additional holes and/or fuel passages of any kind in replacement pistons are allowed.”

The text below represents a change of the current rule 7.1.24 in the Limited class and applying to the SKI class ONLY, allowing for minor modification to the hood in order to fit aftermarket pipes.

7.1.24   Old Rule

“Engine compartment ventilation tubes may be modified, aftermarket, relocated on the original equipment ducting or removed. Inlet and outlet openings may not be enlarged. Vents may be shielded or plugged. No other modifications to the hood will be allowed.”

7.1.24 New Rule

“Engine compartment ventilation tubes may be modified, aftermarket, relocated on the original equipment ducting or removed. Inlet and outlet openings may not be enlarged. Vents may be shielded or plugged. No other modifications to the hood will be allowed

Ski Division Only
Internal modification to the hood, in order to fit an aftermarket exhaust pipe, will be allowed. No other modification will be allowed (additional ventilation etc.) Modifications will be subject to the race/tech directors approval.”

The text below allows for the use of Quick-Fill fueling devices in endurance/offshore racing only. The new rule applies to Superstock class only.

8.1.40. Old Rule

“The entire fuel system is a closed system. The watercraft must not vent or spill fuel at any attitude with or without the engine running. Original equipment fuel tank, fuel filler and relief valve must be used and cannot be modified. The fuel pickup, fuel filter and fuel tap assembly may be removed and/or aftermarket parts may be used. Additional fuel filters may be used and fuel cell foam may be added to the original equipment fuel tank. Modified or aftermarket vapor/air separators or fuel reservoirs may not be used.”

Fuel tap assembly may be modified or aftermarket. Additional fuel filters may be used and fuel cell foam may be added to the original equipment fuel tank. Modified or aftermarket vapor/air separators must not exceed 2in x 6in, and must have a return line to the fuel tank open at all times. Additional fuel reservoirs may not be used.

Endurance/Offshore Events Only
Fuel Filler assembly may be aftermarket or modified. However, any fuel tap/filler assembly must be mounted through the deck - no internal refueling allowed”

The text below permits for the use of a second back-up craft. The rule is intended to give members the possibility of using a second craft in the event that their original craft is damaged or not operable.

12.1.8  Old Rule:

“The watercraft used in a semi-final or final race must be the same watercraft used to qualify for that race. If the moto scoring system is used, the same watercraft must be used in all motos. The use of a second or backup watercraft due to irreparable hull damage may be allowed providing that it meets all class and safety regulations. Any such replacements can be made only with the authorization of the Race Director.”
